Our Story

Caldwell Diner opened its doors on Bloomfield Avenue on February 20, 1997, with a simple goal: serve great food in a warm, welcoming setting where everyone feels like a regular. Nearly 30 years later, our family still runs the restaurant, and that goal hasn’t changed.

Caldwell Diner was founded by Gus and Penny Apostolopoulos and they along with their sons can be spotted there running operations on a daily basis. Being family-owned and women-owned, our family has spent nearly three decades building a place where neighbors from Caldwell, West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Essex Fells, and surrounding towns can gather over a good meal, whether it’s a Saturday morning breakfast, a quick weekday lunch, or a family dinner.

Over the years, we’ve become known for our award-winning French toast and hearty breakfasts, but our menu has grown well beyond the classics. Today, guests enjoy authentic Mexican dishes like our Mexicali Bowl and Steak Tacos, fresh seafood including our popular Teriyaki Salmon, and dinner entrées and rotating specials that rival any restaurant in town.

We’re also proud to be a family-friendly destination, with a kids menu, high chairs, wheelchair-accessible entrances, and a free parking lot. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to what makes a classic New Jersey diner special: good food, friendly service, and a seat for everyone at the table.
